HSA Committee and Event Description

Committees

Ad Sales: 

Secure and organize advertisements on the HSA website.

Chair:  Deirdre Smith

Art Docent:

TIC TOC art docents (all parent volunteers) present paintings from our large rotating painting collections and our special collections to students on Tuesdays in their classrooms.  Art docents may also organize brief activities related to the artwork for the students to do in their classrooms.  No experience is necessary.  All that's required is an interest in art and a desire to spend some quality time with your child and his/her classmates.

Auction/

Fundraiser 

This committee organizes Central School's biggest Fundraiser which occurs every other year.  Volunteers secure venue, plan food, decorations and gather items to be auctioned off.

Bagel Day 

Organize monthly bagel lunch days and half-day bagel days with local bagel shop.  This includes distributing sign-up sheets to parents, collecting money, placing orders and organizing distribution.

B.O.E. Liason 

This person attends B.O.E. meetings and reports back to the H.S.A.

Book Fair 

These two volunteers organize this event with local bookstore.  Usually held in the late Fall.

Box Tops 

This person organizes the collection and submission of Box Tops for Education.  This includes providing collection boxes to classes, collecting and counting the box tops, and communicating totals.

Building and Grounds:

This committee coordinates and assists with planning new landscaping & coordinates fall & spring clean-up events including any necessary weeding. The committee also oversees playground maintenance.

Class Parent Liaison:

This parent serves as the liaison between the H.S.A. Board and the class moms. For example, they communicate information that needs to be passed to the classes.

Class Pictures: 

This person distributes and collects order forms and works with photographer.

Chair:  Jill Burkhardt

Dance Committee:

The Dance Committee is made up of three parents who coordinate the Dance Program.

E-Mail Directory Coordinator:

This person collects, compiles, and distributes a list of e-mail addresses from those parents who wish to have their addresses distributed to the Central School community.

Family Fun Night:

This event takes place in June and is an evening all-school event.  Volunteers organize activities, food and special booths.  There is also a movie under the stars.

Fall Social Event (Harvest Fest):

This is an annual Central School parent and teacher social, usually held in October or November.  This committee organizes the food, decorations and entertainment.

Family Game Night: 

This person organizes a fun night for Central families. Examples of past events are puzzle night and bingo night.  Event usually is held in January and includes prizes and refreshments.

Francesca Night:

This Fundraiser occurs once a month.  Volunteer communicates the events to the Central families and organizes and communicates with the owner of Francesca Pizza.

Fifth Grade Coordinators:

These parents are responsible for organizing the events for the 5th Grade including the Haunted House, Pool Party, Graduation, the yearbook and other graduation events.

Holiday Shop:

This event, usually held during school hours, gives students the chance to do their holiday shopping.  Coordinator shops for the items for sale, coordinates volunteers and set-up.

Hospitality:  

Hospitality consists of a person or a team of individuals responsible for providing, setting up and cleaning up refreshments for all H.S.A. & Federated H.S.A. functions held at Central School. Funding is provided by the H.S.A.

Ice Cream Day

This fundraiser occurs once a month.  Volunteers distribute sign-up sheets to parents, collect money, place orders and organize distribution.

Kid's Stuff Books

Distributes books to families, collects returned books and payments, and sells books at other Central School events.

Media Center:  

The Media Center is our school's library.  There are two volunteers who chair this committee:  Media Center Trainer, who trains the library volunteers on the library's computer system, and Media Center Scheduler who prepares the volunteer schedule.  
A library volunteer assists the children with checking out library books at the Central School library.  The check-out process is all computerized.  By volunteering in the library, you have an opportunity to work with your child's class as well as allow Mrs. Kaiser to do some enriching activities with the children and/or to help them find an interesting book.  Your volunteer time is 50 minutes and, depending on the number of volunteers for your child's class, generally once a month.

Pizza Day:

This Fundraiser occurs twice a month.  Volunteers distribute sign-up sheets to parents, collect money, place orders and organize distribution.

Pool Party:

This all-school event occurs in June.  Coordinators organize entertainment, food, and volunteers.  They also distribute and collect sign-up sheets.

School Sign:  

This job involves changing messages on our school sign to alert parents to special events and meetings.

Spirit Wear

This person works with a vendor to choose and design clothing and goods with the Central School logo.  Volunteer distributes order forms to parents, collects money, places orders and distributes orders.  Also coordinates with principal to order Spirit Day shirts.

Science Fair:

This committee works along with the staff to organize the Science Fair for the Central students.

SCRIP Cards

Collects, submits and distributes SCRIP orders.

Chair:  Kristine Gifford

Special Education Parent Advisory Committee(S.E.P.A.C.)

Attends S.E.P.A.C. meetings and reports back to HSA.

Staff Appreciation Luncheon:  

This is a catered luncheon for approximately 35 teachers and staff, all funded by the H.S.A.  It is held on a weekday in the Spring.

Staff Welcome Back Luncheon: 

This is a catered luncheon to welcome the staff back to school.  This event occurs the first week of school.

Chair:  Linda Kitz

Subway Day:

Organize monthly Subway lunch days with local Subway shop.  This includes distributing sign-up sheets to parents, collecting money, placing orders and organizing distribution.

Chair:  Caroline Lederer

 Walk to School Day

This event occurs in October.  Volunteer organizes bus stops, banners, and small snack.  Communicates with the principal to get teachers to meet at bus stops.

Welcome Back Picnic & Movie:

This committee arranges and coordinates the Welcome Back Picnic and Movie that takes place at Central School at the beginning of the school year.

Webmaster:

Maintains website and does the weekly update.

Chair:  Patricia Crane

Website Manager:

Responsible for sending all communications to Central School families.
